History of Gameday Dresses

College football began in the 1890’s and by the 1920’s these games had become “an event”. During the Roaring 20’s women’s attire was accented by hats and furs, and they dressed for the event. Whether it was Notre Dame Vs Southern Cal or the Deep South rivalry Alabama playing Auburn these events demanded style and attention.   Men and women alike dressed for the occasion, men often in suits and ties with their lovely dates wearing dresses and heels.

This trend continued until the late 60’s which paved the way for The 1970’s and the “hippie culture”, introducing sporting events to blue jeans and tee shirts with the trend continuing throughout the ‘80’s. School licensing and marketing of attire became all the rage. While this still appropriate today and a wonderful way to support our teams; some of us girls look forward to the opportunity to get a little dressed up for the big game or tailgate.
The tradition of the Gameday Dress is alive and well throughout the Southeast and Southwest and has taken hold in the ACC with our friends in Clemson and the ladies of the National Champion Florida State Seminoles.

Now, in 2014 we have solidly placed our own style on this fabulous Gameday Tradition, the cultural and statement making accent of the cowgirl boot! So, today, First and Ten Gameday Dresses salutes the boot and all the women who have added to this 100 year old Gameday Tradition. Congratulations ladies!
